The parts book looks like there is a raised angled section that lines up with the keyway in the countershaft. That faces to the rear. In the IT manual it is not at all clear which way it goes, but it also looks like the rear side of the hub is a little thicker. If you are lucky, it will only line up with the mainshaft drive gear the right way around.

I only had the IT manual when I went through the gearbox on my H, and it came out right, so I'm guessing there can only be one way to put it together right. Other than that, it was kind of fun.

not the worst job i ever did i enjoy foolin with this old stuff but as you know it never breaks at the right time one little needle out of a bearing sure can tear up jack cant it? most specially when you get on a tractor to move it to the shop to add power steering and replace axle bearings and seals well i guess it all worked out ok pulling the top of the platform to replace broken gears sure makes it easier to remove bull gears to replace axle bearings again thanks Riverbend
