Belt Pulley Unit

I've been thinking about installing the belt pulley unit that came with our '51 M. I see the plate that has to be removed (under the gas tank) but I'm wondering how difficult the actual installation is. Do you just line the gears up and bolt it down into place?

Also, does the pulley run continously, or only when the PTO lever is engaged? The manual isn't very explicit about these matters.

If things go smoothly, I'll be running a cordwood saw in the near future!

If it is like the pulley on the Model H, it just drops right inand bolts down (use a gasket of course). There is a rod (3/8" I think) that runs from the pulley control arm to the plate on the steering shaft that controls starts and stops the pulley (i.e., it dosent runn off the PTO). If you can"t find a rod, you can make one easy enough.

The unit will have it's own lever to shift it in gear. Yeah, pretty straightforward.

There is a need to lubricate the unit before installation, use 85-90 wt gear oil (same as trans). The unit is then splash lubed from trans.
There is no alignment, the unit just bolts in (use thin .005-.008 gasket).
There is a lever on the unit that engages/disengages it. Clutch in, move lever, clutch release moderately (just as though you were starting to move the tractor)
