I've got a 53 S/M that I'm wanting to mount a 3pt snow blower to ? Because the PTO is not live will this cause me problems ? Maybe I should mount a rear blade on it instead. Any info would be appricated.

You seem to have a lot of different advice here but I run a 72" blower off a B250. It doesn't have a live PTO and yes I have to shift into neutral if I hit a big mound but think of this. If you use a blade (which I did 30 years ago)the snow eventually piles up and your driveway gets narrower and narrower. Then you have a lot of loader work to do. The blower gets it out of the way and does not create banks which drift in. Live PTO would be nice but until I can afford a newer tractor I don't mind using the one I've got and it does a real nice job.

LERM, I HAVE A 8 FOOT MEYERS PICKUP PLOW THAT I HAD MOUNTED TO A 45 M WITH A WIDE FRONT AND IT WORKED GREAT. I COULD ANGLE THE BLADE THE WHOLE WAY AND STILL BE WIDER THAN THE REAR TIRES. TWO YEARS AGO I GOT A 300 ROWCROP, I TOOK THE WIDE FRONT AND PUT ON THE 300 AND NOW HAVE LIVE HYDRAULICS AND POWER STEERING TO PLOW SNOW WITH. NOW I HAVE A GREAT PLOWING TRACTOR AND TURNED THE M INTO A PULLER AND HAVE FUN IN THE SUMMER TIME TOO.

I second the blade idea. Big snowblowers are meant for big snow. They don't do much good in 4" of powder... You end up wearing most of it. Unless you live in an area where a foot of snow is a typical overnight snowfall, the blade is a much better option. Even so, running a snowblower with a Super M with no live PTO and no M&W hand clutch... Forget about it, unless the snowblower has with its own engine.

Even with live PTO, the slowest reverse on many tractors is still too fast. An old trick for blowing snow is to run only one tire chain. When you hit deep snow, the wheel with the least traction will spin and you can edge yourself into the snow by tapping the brake on that wheel.

I have had a front mount snow blower on a 560 diesel and a lot of times it takes 1st gear with the TA back (slow) for the engine to keep up in deep snow (over 12"). Granted, the blower is 8 feet wide, but reverse in a SM is faster than 1st with the TA back, so I forsee a lot of heartaches trying to blow snow with it. I've never used a blade, so I don't have any experience in that area.

My nickel's worth.

I wouldnt. To run the blower ya want to maintian good RPM, and with only 1 reverse at some point you will have to push the clutch and the blower will stop also, not allowing the blower to clean out any way. If you only are gonna have maybe 4" tp blow you could do it, but in most cases my opinion is dont do it. I have a 7' on a 56+ HP hydro and it works well, at times I even have to stop and let the blower catch up. I have been seeing alot of people mounting snow plow blades to an old front end loader and it seems to work great as long as the blade is widere than the tractor tires. Just my opinion

Make up a ft. blade for it from and old snow plow it is a lot better and you will not have a stiff neck. And the blower idea is not that great with out live pto.
