Hi:

I would like to know if a 544 utility has a manual 5 speed tranmission. I do not want Hydro tranmission. What is the handle on the left side of the tractor use for Hi or low?

Need help;

I have an International 544 that is stuck in reverse and am wondering if anybody might know how big of a job it is to tear it apart and fix. Or if this has happened to anyone else.
Thanks.

The International was available with: 5 speed transmission, 5 speed transmission with TA, or Hydrostatic. If it is a gear drive, the handle on the left is TA. If it is a Hydrostatic, the lever on the left is the range.

Harold:

Thanks for the information about the 5 speed tranmission. I have another question did the 544 have standard hydraulic lever for raising a loader and another lever for dumping the bucket, did it have one lever so I can run a snowblower thrower on the three point hitch (can turn the blower with a hydraulic cylinder)total of three levers.

thanks for the information:

jim

544 came several different ways:

Hydro
5 speed + reverse with TA (torque amplifier)
5 speed + forward/reverse shuttle

So the handle on the left could be the TA or a shuttle, need a better description of linkage or gauges to tell ya which one it is. I think the TA tractors had 2 speeds for each gear listed on the tachometer...
