If you were to put a three point hitch on a M would it handle round bales?

Have picked up 5x6 bales with the one I had on my 460. The person that purchased my 460 started to use it dailey to move bales and he broke the hitch. poor welding job at the factory. He had the local welder. Weld it back up a beef it up and now it works good.

Used a SM with 3 point dual cylinder to move them.Wheel weights and frame weights on front.Still had to back up if much of a grade because front would come up.

I use an M and it does okay. I have 400 lbs on the front end though. Watch out on the hillsides though, if you travel too fast you can tip it.

The weight capacity of the 3pt, and the weight range of the bales can be determined. Round balers often have scales built in if they're newer. With older ones, the owner's manual might have a weight range listed, or you may know just from experience how heavy the bales tend to be. With the add-on 3pt, it's extremely easy because the manufacturers list the weight capacity for liability reasons.

Basic math, if the weight of the bale plus bale spear is less than the capacity of the hitch, you can reasonably expect things to be okay.

Of course, like old says, there's that matter of the front end coming off the ground... Add-on 3pt hitches stick way out in back of the tractor, giving the bale that much more leverage to tip things over and make life miserable. You'll probably need front end weight.

I think the 3 point would but, you may have trouble keeping the front end on the ground. Depending on how heavy the bales are that is. A friend used a 450 to move bales and it does well but , it has a loader up front also.
