Well I tried the broom stick handle, paper towel tube, rubber hose, pipe, wife's vacuum hose and did narrow the tapping down to the govenor.
Like I said in the previous post, the tapping was loud, continous and solid and my original thoughts was it came from the govenor. I just did'nt want to beleive that though before everything else checked out.
Well anyhow, after the scientific probe (probes I should say) I decided to remove the govenor housing. Everything looked in good order but decided that something needed doing before it went back together. Found another thruster sleeve, compared them, identical, but replaced it anyway and reassembled. Fired er up and the tapping was gone! Quiet as a mouse.
Someone want to elaborate on this because it don't make sense! I am glad it is fixed but I would like to know if that is a common cause or jus one o dem ghosts.

Thanks to all your replies.

Rex

I had a noise on my 100 that sounded like a bad waterpump bearing, the hydraulic pump gear wuz bout to fall off. It did fall off and took out the gov, cam, crank gear, and hydraulic pump.
