making a 282 into a 301

I own a 560 diesel that is in need of a rebuild. At this time, I think this tractor might get turned into a pulling project. My question is, I realize that the 282 and the 301 Diesels are virtually the same motor, the 301 pretty much being a 282 without sleeves. Can I just pull the sleeves in my 560, have rings made to fit the recesses in the block and drop in 301 pistons? What would you all recommend to make a good puller engine from a 282? This would be for a non-turbo farm stock class. Thanks a lot!

Well ya could make a ring up but ya stand the chance that it may break and eat and engine and from what we have tried with the 282 for pullen ya just can not get enough air in them and with indirect injection thats another problem we even went as far as tryen to make it a direct injection engine with littel success lots of machine work upping the comp. do one thing and creat another problem and still get blowen away by a decent gasser . Even went with a 301 combine engine and bored it to the max and it all came back to air flow.

You could probably get more responses if you posed this question over on the pulling board.
