Was wondering if the 350 row crop had a 12 volt electrical system from the factory? If not what was the first gas farmall tractor to have a 12 volt system? Was power steering and option or standard on the 350's? Is the gas version a true 40 pto hp tractor? Thanks

Matthew

My 1957 W450 came with 12 volt from the factory.

No one specifically said yet...power steering is an option. (my 350 doesn't have it)

Farmall MD could be the first row crop with 12
volt.Gasoline 350 tractors serial # 13243 and higher were factory 12 volt.

I have a late 1957 Farmall 350. It is a factory 12 volt. There is a sticker below the dash indicating that the tractor is equiped with a 12 volt electrical system. The tractor is in its original clothes and hasn't been repainted.

Mat If I remember right the 350 450 is when IH went to 12V. Some where in the run of the 350 450 but not at first.

Matt: Are you having winter in the Mason Lansing area? I hope your keeping well. Sorry I missed that show in Mason last summer, visitors arrived unexpectedly. You have a Merry Christmas and all the best in the new year.

I think the 350 gas was 6 volt and know the diesel was 12 volt. That diesel was a direct start diesel. I know the 130 and 230 remained at 6 volt. 460, 560 and 660 would have been the first to be all 12 volt, allthough it is possible the 350 and 450 changed before end of production. I thought I remembered seeing a 40+ hp on the pto side, but Nebraska doesn't indicate that. It was rather fuel efficient compared to the 300. All 350s I've seen had power steering, however it still may have been an option. A lot of IH feathers that we thought of as standard equipment remained options for many years. TA for example remained an option for years.

Hi Hugh, According to my BorgWarner book the 350
gas was 6 volts. I don't know if they switched to 12 volts on the later productions.

I heard you received a lot of snow up your way. We have about 3" on the ground from last Friday's snow. A mixture is coming in on Thursday. It was -2 here this morning did get up to about 20 by noon. Hal

Hal: We are getting hammered here right now. Must have 4 to 6 inches of new snow and apparently another 8 tonight. Wind is the big factor.

I just now got back from Detroit, been on the road 14.5 hours, half of that was waiting time. Met up with a trucker from the Carolinas at Canada Customs. He spied my Oliver hat, knew right away I had to be an old iron guy. I was there for an hour and he near talked the ear off me. He was into IH UD diesels and Detroit diesels. I think he was building his own monstor SUVs. He was kind of marooned, had an oversize load and told me, one is not allowed to drive in Ontario with an oversize load on snow covered or icy roads. I didn't know that, but then I've never moved anything oversize in winter.

I have a '58 model 350 gas, I'm the 2nd owner and it is still 6 volt and has factory power steering and fast hitch.

I was thinking that on voltage and power steering, but I wasn't 100% sure. I have never seen a gas 350 any other way.

The 350 gas had 37.54 on the drawbar. Here's a web site for most tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Tests. Hal
