Had the A out plowin snow this weekend. It was awsome. Alot of people told me that tractor won't push nothin i said your wrong! Well i proved em wrong. The snow plow guy burried our mail box while winging the snow into the field, so i got the a out and pushed the snow away to find the pole, well it just kept pushin! No fluid or chains, just cast weight. The snow was about 4ft high and packed, it just pushed it out of the way. Now the snow is about 8ft high where i pushed. We are going in the morning to Shedden to get some more cast weight for the M and h, we will put some on the back of the a. For chains, could we just get strands of chain, put about 4 per tire, just wrap the chain around the tire and rim, and bolt it together? I know i'm sometimes cheap.

Mitch: So you just found out another one of life's little secrets. Pound for pound that little offset is the best tractor IH ever built. Doesn't matter whether it be A, SA, 100, 130 or 140, given their own weight they make their big brothers look very ordinary.

I'll throw you another idea for next summer. Find a sheet of 1/2" steel 4' x 10'. Turn about 5" up 45 degrees at each end. Weld heavy angle iron along each side on the up side. Hook a heavy 4' chain to each end. Now your in business for a real farm situation tractor pull. None of this whimpy stuff of starting with a load that gets heavier as you go. In a real farm situation you start with a full load and go. No classes in this pull, Farmall A competes against the mighty M. The winner is the tractor starting away with and pulling 10' the highest percentage of its own weight. Pullers can add weight to their tractors as they see fit. Adding weight gives no real advantage. Often time it hinders.

It doesn't matter whether these are regular letter series or supers, the A will be the tractor to beat. It will cause the others a lot of grief. Operator skill is very important. I've seen 3 guys pull the same tractor and not place in sequence. I've also seen the same guy win with any of these tractors. If I were to enter one of these pulls, my pick would be A or SA. It has the best chance of pulling over 3 times it's own weight. I've seen a lot of these type pulls and from what I've seen would rank A - 1st, H - 2nd, M - 3rd and C - 4th.

Just don't mess around and tear the valve stem loose Mitch, you've done enough "dumb kid tricks" for one year. Hey did you get any leads on your harvest brigade run? I still wanna take you south with that new old combine of yours and an old IH truck. We could eat sandwiches and sleep under the truck, whatdaya say?

Good thing you said that about the valve stems!never thought about it. No i didn't get any leads on the Payne harvest crew. There email won't work for some reason. I will find it. I hope next year to get my G license, then i can go for my AZ, A is for the Semi, and Z is for the air brakes, then i don't have to fool around at the home place of what ever crew i choose to get my license. Um i'd have to think about takin the old 91. Did i tell you i got a lead on an old IH truck? not sure what model, i think a kb, the second one to roll of the line at navistar in Chatham!

Do you have any access to old truck chains? Single wheel for 22" truck tires would work like a charm, I'd think. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

If that won't work look around your local road department as motor graders use 24" chains. Roads are hard on them and graders replace them often cause many times it's cheaper to replace then fix them. After they are done with them, they will still last you a long time on that A. They might be a bit big depending on your tire size.
