if you remember i had a transmission lock up and grinding feeling pto shaft well seems that someone had been in the main shaft cause yep you guessed it one of those little needle found its way between the constant mesh gear and the main shaftgear. bye the way none was missing from the bearing when i took it out anyway i have this ole heffer spread out all over the shop now so here is the questions . how much wear on the slider and running gears are exceptible before i need to replace them? these i have are all rounded appox. 3/16 inch so what you fellers think about ordering used gears sight-un seen? any kind of help is deeply appreciated terry t

3/16 inch or more is very common, unless the tractor has been in storage for 50 years. If the gears are not noisy, and you aren't going to run it 12 hours a day, save yourself some money and leave them alone. I doubt if you find any better ones used. And, unless you replace the gears as a matched set, you will get more noise and wear than you have now.

The only way I would order used gears sight-unseen would be from a reputable salvage yard that I could trust.
