I've been shopping around for the Nissan/Hitachi alternator to put on my H and looked at NAPA. The on-line price was 104.99 + core. That seems somewhat expensive. I would like to use a rebuilt/new one and eliminate the used working/non-working issue. Any other sources? I looked at autopartsgiant.com and it is 46.65 + core. Has anyone bought from them? I would like to use this alternator due to space under the hood. Thanks

The 1979 Nissan pickup model 620 used that alternator too. The rebuilt alternator is $42.00
plus $1.00 core charge & about $2.00 MD sales tax
from Salvo Auto Parts. Their number is 1-410-686-8200. This is near Baltimore, MD. Hal
PS: Here's is their website too:

Look around for an alternator for a 1980-1981 Dodge Colt, 1.8 and 1.9l 4 cyl. They are mitsubishi alternators,, very small, high amps, and just a bit of tweeking on the original bracket and make your own adjuster bracket, it works great, fits under the hood, and Last time I bought one, they were around 40 bucks. I got mine at O'Reilly's Auto Parts here in Missouri and don't know if they are in your area or not. I paid something right at $50.00 plus a $10.00 core charge since I didn't have one to turn in. This was for a new rebuilt which works just perfect. I've seen a post on here quite often from a person offering a new rebuilt for sale that he bought and never used. If you want his email address just click on my name and send me an email off forum and I'll provide contact information. He lives in Illinois and I don't know what he is wanting for the alternator. I believe he indicated he obtained the Hitachi 14231 and later found a way to use a Delco which he already had. Hope this helps, Hal

Try salvage yard most likly they would have one that would work. also if you would use your old braket for your gen and add a braket to it for the alternator you can use a g m alternator. And the same bracket that holds gen. Also you will need to use the old pully off the gen to adjust the belt. On the g m alternator you will need to drill a hole and tap it to hold pully on just like the gen. Theres not alot of room but will work. Either a three wire or a single wire.

Hello,
I had the same idea until I saw the price of the Japaneese alternator. Around $100 here as well.
Ended up going with the GM and have it hanging out the side a bit. At least can close the hood now. Good luck. YC
