I was woundering what seat assembly came standard on a 1940 H, S/N FBH27494. My H has the seat assembly with the spring in frount of the seat inbetween your legs. Is there repair kits for this kind of seat assembly as the one I have is in bad shape?. I've see a lot of pictures of 1940 H's and all the pictures I've seen do not have this kind of seat assembly.
Thanks to all
Carl from MI

There were 2 different seats on 1940 H and M the very early ones had the channel iron seat with notched deck top same as 1939. Most had the type you describe. Do not think optional seat with shock was available that early.

Read your post again and seat you describe could be either early or late 1940. Later ones had round curved pipe support early ones had the channel iron support.

I've got one of those all torn down out in the shop, I didn't realize just how worn out they could get until I took this one apart. Looks like it is gonna take some precision welding and grinding to make it good again.

I've seen 3 differant types of seat brackets on Hs, not sure which is correct for your year.

I have a curved pipe type if this is the kind you are talking about, both my H's had this type of seat on them but I decided the ride would be easier on an old man with the shock absorber seat,so I changed one out. I have this one with no seat pan that I will give you if you ever come to Tn and get in my area. By the way you can usually get parts such as the spring and pins at a tractor junk yard
