Bill - You should be able to get by with a 3 HP electric motor. However a couple of caveats:

1 - Use only a extra high torque, capacitor start motor, eg. a compressor duty motor. Do not use a normal torque (fan/blower duty) motor!

2 - Run the shortest, heaviest possible (12 ga minimum - 10 ga preferred) conductor direct from the breaker panel to the motor.
