I have this darned E-4 I am wrestling with. It fires blue in the vice, I mount it on the tractor and it is dead. Take it off, put it in the vice BAM! I'm zapped. Put it on the tractor it just lays there. Take it off..Etc.. since about 7:30 this moring. It has to be grounding some where but, What the heck! Anybody have an idea as to what the cause might be?

Don"t ya just love those E-4"s, Slo? I have 2 for my Reg(one on it and 1 for a backup). I guess things like that are why they went to the F-4. Kevin

There's no way that bolting it down would make it quit working, IMHO. If you don't have any other wires connected than the one that sparks on the bench then the only explanation is it ain't turning equally on the tractor. Either you have it upside down and the impulse isn't working or the drive gears are somehow not turning it. Are you using the wire from the coil to test it? Can you hear the impulse working on the tractor?

I'm also no guru, but when you put it back on do you hook up the kill wire?? If you do don't that could be where the problem is. All it takes is that wire to be shorted some place and bye bye spark. If it doesn't have a kill switch disreguard this post

im no guru but just wondering if youve tried it on tractor before you hook any wires to it. And then hook one wire at a time until you find problem. Just thinkin.

Old an Dellbertt. THere is no kill wire and I am only using one wire. In fact the same wire as I use on the vise stand. I'm thinking internaly something warps just abit when I bolt the old girl down? I don't know. All I am really aware of is that I am getting a little frustrated and my hands are't warm enough!

Thanks guys.

Loosen it up on the mount and see if your thought holds the heat.

Sounds stupid but I replaced the bolts with shorter bolts (base mount mag) and the thing is fireing like mad. I ran the longer bolts in and out. They weren't too long for the tap.. Heck I don't know. It works now and I'm not touching the thing.

The longer bolts may have been hitting some thing that you where not seeing inside of it. maybe even keeping the impluse from working. Who know but I'm with you as long as you have it working I would touch it either and chualk it up to gremlins
