Just wondering what people are using for sealing gaskets. I used the blue Permatex on the transmission & pump seals and the thermostat housing on my H. Is it ok to use this stuff even with new gaskets?

And what kind of parts cleaner works the best.

Randy

I"ve had great luck with the "right stuff". I think permatex makes it, never had a leak yet.

on coolant related I use the blue RTV
on joints with expansion issues (dissimilar metals) permatex #2 non hardening
on pan/valvecover onside only with High Tack
on head gaskets (that call for it on the package, or in the service manual)I use coppercoat spray on.
The best parts cleaner (that is not just one of our most common hydrocarbon fuels used in a dangerous manor) is Safety Kleen.

I use a lot of non-harding permetex. Silicon is a no-no around fuel gaskets-fittings,hyd pumps, as it will get into working parts and give problems later. As for parts cleaner,I use mineral spirits{paint thinner},cleans good, evaporates dry. Cheaper than regular parts cleaner at NAPA. Just my way of doing things, not always right.
