My shop charged $180 to grind the shaft and get me new oversize bearings for an A. That shop isn't the cheapest, they're just the best in my area.

If they don't look good them I'll bet they aren't good. If you run your finger nail across them and it feels ruff it need to be reground. Most of the time its around $100-150 to have it done. Just did one on a koler engine and cost less then $30 but your will cost a good bit more. Never a good idea to put new parts in with haveing the crank checked out and at least polished

If they don't look the best you should use a micrometer or have your local machine shop to measure the rod journals. This way they can determine if the crankshaft is egg-shaped and would require it to be ground undersize if it is.
The mains may need to ground too.

Your local auto machine shop can quote an estimate
by phone if rod jouranls and mains need to be ground. They may be able to just polish the shaft and it isn't scored very much. If it's worn .002" under specs you could use .002" undersize bearings on rod and mains. I think some places even have .003" undersize bearings.

They're called undersize even though they may be thicker. Hal

Our local auto machine shop charges $85.00 for the shaft from a 4 cylinder engine & $100 for the shaft from a 6 cylinder engine with 4 mains. It costs more if it has more that 4 mains. Hal
