I just bought a 1940 M last month. Can anyone help me understand the hydraulics a little better? I got one hydraulic hose comming out the side of the tractor near the bell housing. It looks as if there is another place for hoses directly on the other side of the tractor. Is there a way to put another hose on the other side and have capacity for a double action cylinder? Thanks for any help. --Tye

The back one on the left is delayed for rear tooling so that it came up after the front. The return for your two way valve goes to the filler pipe. With the two-way valve you need to have the lift lever pulled back in a fixed position and then run a line to the inlet and out to the filler neck. Then you can run the two other ports on the valve to the two-way cycl. Most use the outlet on the right side to the inlet of the two-way control valve.

There is one connection on the right side, and another directly across on the left side. Both of these are connected via a TEE fitting, and are "pressure out" only. There is anothe fitting on the left, behind the one already mentioned, and it is "pressure out" also. The hydraulic system as it is does not have the capability of operating a 2 way cylinder.

Yep, you need to plumb in an open center two-way hydraulic valve in order to get two way hydraulics.

Tye, you can either run the return into the filler cap nipple (this is where the original IH valve returns to), or you can drill and tap the drain plug on the bottom of the pump housing to accept your return line.
