Now that I have the major leaks on my 826 repaired (oil cooler o-rings), I wonder what sort of "normal" oil consumption I should expect next season. The tractor is showing 8K hours. I'm not sure if it's been apart Iif it has, it's been at least 10 years), but when I adjusted the valves, the upper end and the inside of the V/C were almost shiny new inside, so it's either been serviced well or it's been apart. It runs good and gave me a touch over 4 gal/hour pulling an 8-shank chisel. I just swtched it over to my favorite diesel oil, Rotella-T 15W-40. It had been running Case/IH 30wt for at least the five years prior to my buying it.

Normal oil consumption? I can remember my dads 3020s, 4020s, using at least 2 quarts per tank of fuel when doing heavy tillage, It seems like my 856D did about the same. We considered it normal. Doing lighter work neither tractor would use a drop.

Hey! Now you're talking.

Damn near 2 quarts a day during growing season and hard work.

That's why I find it so darn odd that this 310 of mine hasn't used a drop since the day it came off the truck.

Just plain hard to say, I guess.
