Will a belt pulley gear box off of a 560 work on a 450.
If not does anyone have one for a 450 that they would like to sell?
thanks

When my dad traded for our 560 he had the belt pulley gear box from the 400 put on the 560. I think those from a "M" through 560 were all the same. They sure look the same.

Lance: The M and Super M would be different, however Super MTA, 400, 450 and 560 would all be the same. The newer torque tube accomodating the Torque Amplifier would be the defining factor.

Hugh,

I checked my parts book which covers M thru SMTA. All the belt pulley gearboxes are the same except for the early M's which had a different pulley control lever and shaft. That is the piece that engages the internal gears. Brackets and engagement rod also changed at F-28174.

I am not going to compare the SMTA thru 560/660 unless someone requests it. It seems likely that they are the same.

Basically, there are only two IH gearboxes produced at that time. One size for the M sized tractor and another for the H's and up.

Wardner: I wondered that after saying it. Started thinking that gear box is quite close to back of torque tube, and the shaft for powering wheels may not be different. Since belt pullies were a disappearing item at that time, I can see IH making the top of that torque tube, so mounting for pulley gear box was same distance from drive shaft. No point in designing a new gear box for a belt pulley by mid 50s. I didn't have a belt pulley for my 560, but did on 300 and belt pulley speed changes with TA. I stand corrected.
