Height from the ground to top of steering wheel on the H is 75.875 inches, while on the M it is 76 inches.

Kirk: This question made me curious as I knew it was close, couldn't remember the exact figures. So an M with low air on rear tires could sit lower than the H with hard tires.

Only if the M tires are flat. Guy Fay's data book (seldom wrong) says 78 1/4 for the M and 74 for the H. I would go and actually measure, but my H tires are half flat.

There are some mistakes in his books.

Yes, I have found "mistakes", some were based on the best info at the time -- but there are far fewer than many of the other authors. I think Guy and Ken Updike make "typos", other authors make blatant mistakes due to ignorance. Having done some publishing as part of my previous job as an agronomist, all typos are next to impossible to find, even when you get some other "expert" to review it.

CNKS: I'm afraid I have to side with Kirk over Guy Fay on this one. I knew they were within an inch of each other to top of steering wheel. Top of hood is quite different.

I took those measurements right out of the owner"s manual for both the H and the M. I would measure mine, but the tires on my H are flat too :-) and my M is in pieces.

My M book says 78 1/4, my H book says 75 5/8. 2 5/8 difference. My Operator's manuals are the latest verisons. Differences could be what IH was calling the standard tires at the time -- earliest ones were on 36 inch rims, the manual for my dad's 1941? H listed dimensions with steel wheels, if I remember right. Current manuals list the H with 10-38, M with 11-38, thus a slight diameter difference. If equipped with 4 ply tires they will sit lower than with 6 ply (I don't consider 4 ply a good idea on an H or M). Perhaps we should just say there isn't much difference.
