Do you guys think its normal for the head/block on my cub to be too hot too touch when running and the radiator water to be cool, not even warm?even after working her for a while? There are no thermostats and I removed the radiator and a bajillion bolts and everything seems not to be clogged.Maybe this is normal with a thermo-syphon system but just wanted to ask.

Ted, I just put my Cub back together last month, ran water through the water jacket and installed a brand new radiator. Well, after running about thirty minutes and having the overfilled amount of water blow out of the overflow tube, I shut her down. The bottom of the radiator was still cool, as was the lower siphon tube attached to the block. The radiator cap was hot! After about 30 minutes of sitting, the heat kinda evened out. Anyway, I KNOW my system is clear and it shows the same symptoms. I just think it is the nature of that thermosyphon system to work that way.

This engine relys on thermo syphon (hot water rises, cool water sinks) to circulate the coolant. Doesn't take much to prevent this from working. I'd drain and flush the radiator and engine block real good. You'll most likely get a lot of crud out of there. Refill with 50/50 mix of green stuff and distilled water. Dave.

It sounds like your radiator may be clogged. If the tubes become clogged, the coolant can not circulate. Try running the engine without the radiator cap & check for heat on the radiator.
It should be hot all over. Hal

In the winter, the radiator water in a Cub will not get very warm. Your tractor might not have problem at all.
