Just acquired a F.Cub on a partial trade, year unknown ? S.N.#56074, came with a bunch of attatchments, belly mower, cultivators, discs etc.Runs good but drips a lot of oil from bell housing when hot.Hyd. lift works O.K., P.T.O. not working, shaft tied in with baling twine, feels like it would pull straight out. Is this a "rowcrop" model or do they all have this much ground clearance?
I'm into this tractor for about $1600 CDN.,are these problems worth fixing ? or would i be better selling "as is"
Any advice appreciated. JJ.

Yes, be sure to register on the Cub board - they will give you a lot of good information. The Cubs are great little tractors and, while I'm not sure why R-cubed is having power problems, these tractors are geared to be real work horses in the field. I use my '57 Cub more than any tractor I own (I also have a Farmall Super A and an H) and I've not found it to be unstable, or at least not more so than other higher clearance tractors. You can also get great advice on this topic from the Cub guys.

The fixes you describe, are common to older Cubs and not too hard or expensive to correct. The PTO fix is usually an inexpensive fix and there is an article on the Cub board about it.

Keep the Cub, once you learn a bit about it and work on it, you'll be glad you did.

There were two models the tall one (row crop) and the Lowboy. They were basically the same except the final drive was rotated 90 degrees on the lowboy thus reducing it's height by about 10 inches. The tall ones turn over rather easy so watch it when leaning to the left. They say they are worth $1500+ but nobody has been trying to beat me out of mine. I need to trade it for an A because it doesn't have enough power to pull the slack out of my suspenders.

If it sits tall that means its and older one probably in the 50s. As far as being owrth fixing I would say yes. In my area a good looking one with evert thing working will sell for $2000 plus

The "tall" Cub you mention was actually built from 1947 to 1979. The grill and seat changed and it changed names from Farmall to International in 1968 but was basicly the same. The Cub Lo Boy was introduced in 1955 and was built to 1968 was the same as the Farmall Cub except lower front axle and turned rear housings and was a International rather than Farmall. In 1968 the International Cub 154 Lo Boy was introduced which became the 185 and 184. It had basicly the same engine and drive train but was centered and looked like a large Cub Cadet.
