I don't have my book right here but that sounds like about the right amount of fluid. You're going to buy a five gallon pail anyway, right. When you drain it, leave the fast hitch up, then let it down after the system is done draining, or better yet unhook the hose on the lift side of the cylinder and drain it that way. There is quite a batch of fluid trapped in the cylinder otherwise, and that just contaminates your new fluid. I also jacked up the front end and turned the steering wheel back and forth a few times to try and clear out the power steering. The screen is underneath the top cover of the hydraulic system, and you better figure about half a day at least to get it out and back in. The cover is solid cast iron, and I wound up using an engine hoist to handle it. As I said, I don't have my book here to find the number, but the screen was available from Case IH two years ago, $60. If it is not damaged, you can just clean it and put it back in. Mine was packed solid with crud, and had collapsed. I opened it up, cleaned it, and soldered it shut again and it seems to work all right. I am trying to figure out a way to put an external screen or filter in the system, so it can get changed or cleaned when the fluid is changed.I don't think the top had been off my tractor since it was built, and there was half an inch of thick goo in the bottom of the reservoir. The way it is built, there is about that much left in there when you drain it, as the drain plug is not at the very bottom. I had to change the fluid in mine two more times in the next six months, before I got all the crap out of the system.
