12 Volt Alt. Conversion - - Plumbing Question

If I convert my M to 12 volt and decide to use an oil pressure switch on the alternator cut-out, how do I go about plumbing that in? The reason I ask is because its a mag ignition with the push pull ground out switch. I'd like to keep that rather than adding a toggle switch, but I want the alternator cut-out to be automatic. Using oil pressure is the only automatic way I can think of doing it with a mag ignition...

The "cutout" I'm talking about is for the wire connected to the #1 terminal on the alternator (field winding). I want the field to be de-energized when the engine is off. Bob's diagram in the link below shows what I'm thinking. I'm just wondering about how people have gone about adding the pressure switch. I assume that I can just add a T off the block before the oil guage lead.

make sure you get a "backwards" oil pressure switch too! one that is normally open and closes above, say, 6psi. (if a light was attached it would turn it on when you have pressure)

You don"t need a cutout on an alternator. They have diodes that keep the "juice" from flowing when the tractor is shut down. Of course diodes will let a tiny amount of current thru and if it sets for 4 months at a time it"s best to disconnect the battery. They have battery switches on the market that does that in seconds without disconnecting any cables for $5 to $20.

Put a T in the line that goes to the oil gauge

If your useing a delco alternator than I would think but maybe wrony you would put that in the #1 wire from the alternator. That way if you have no preassure you also have no charge and also no battery drain when not running.
