H wheel weight - flat side out ?

Which side of the rear wheel weight goes out ? The manual and the parts book show the flat side out. The square recess for the bolt head is also on the flat side. To my eye, it looks like the flat side should go on the inside. Am I missing something ?

Thanks

Greg

Flat side out on all.

Something is not adding up.

The first set of weights goes on with the dished side against the wheel (which is dished out). It is held on by 4 bolts through the inner bolt circle. Second weight is shown installed flat side out, held on with four bolts through the outer bolt circle. How does the thrid set attach ?

It can't be through the inner bolt holes, the recess for the head is on the wrong side. Turning the second weight around won't work because you can't turn the nuts in the outer slotted holes, and the 'oblong' hexagon in the center does not line up with the first set.

If you use two sets of weights, the second set is held on with 4 bolts. But if you go to three sets, both sets two and three are only held on with two bolts ?! Can't be right. Neither threaded rod nor 8" X 3/4" bolts seems like a good solution. Maybe that's why they didn't list any hardware for the third set.

I'm putting two sets on and going to plow a little snow. In the meantime, any ideas ?

Greg

I think the curved side goes out. The other side is beveled in and that lines up with the out part of the first weight, thus helping to hold it so all the weight of the second one isn't on just the bolts. This is important as the second weight is held on with only two bolts. The bolts (square heads) go in the two slots at the outer edges of the first weight and thru the two holes in the outer edges of the second weight. You can continue to add weights in this manner. I put mine on with grade 8 bolts from my IH dealer ($90) for 12 bolts. Dave.

The curvature of the weight matches the dish of the wheel thus it lies in the dish nice and flat side out. Put the square head bolts through the four holes on the outside of the weight and put on lock washers and nuts. Makes a quick install and looks correctly. Now if you have the cast centers turned inside out then you can either put them on the inside (next to the platform) or you can leave them outside but I don't care for that look at all. Then it seems the weight is hanging out there in mid air. Migraine

How about the second and third sets ? Do they alternate flat and dished or are they all flat side out ?

It just looks wrong to have the 'finished' side hidden...

reverse the dish of your wheels, then you can put the finished side away form wheel.
