Dealer sold me a single seal for this shaft and there is two seals on tractor. Have they gone to a single seal or did dealer give me the wrong seal.

H IH with band brake.

All of the seals now are much smaller than the original ones in the old farmalls. Some folks like to use two of the new seals, but I have not found that to be necessary. If the surface the seal runs on is good, one will be sufficient. The new seals are of a much improved material.

Alos, putting in 2 is a waste of money. The one away form the oil will soon wear out due to no lubrication.

Some folks say to put gease between the two seals to help keep the outside one lubricated. But I agree in general that using two is a waste of money. If the inside one happens to leak a little, then the outside one will get lubed from that. However, better to spend your money getting the shaft surface in top condition with a speedi sleeve or other method.
