Hello,

I have a 436 in a hydro 100 farm tractor. The tractor is hard to start when below 50* and blows white smoke. I would like to know how to check the pump timming. Do you use a dial indicator like on the cummins B series or is there a nother way?

Thanks,
Farmallwayne

take the inspection plate off the right side of the bell housing and spin the motor up to 18 degrees BTC on number one. then pull the pump gear cover on the left front of engine. take the gear off. the hub should have two dots and a pointer on it. set the pointer between the dots. this is off memory so i might have missed something. good luck.

It sounds to me like your compression might be or is getting bad. Might want to run a cold compression test.

Wayne You have timing marks on the flywheel, don't remember the degree and marks on the pump grive gear. Set the timing marks for #1 cylinder on the lift side through the timing plate and set the pump. No indicater needed.
