I am having issues with the spark on my B, after sitting outside for amonth it would not start, I have recently replaced the coil, condensor, points, cap, and rotor. after checking for spark I took off the coil cap and found alot of condensation, I dryed, and finally got it running, now again I cannot get it running by the hand crank, when i hand crank it I get no spark, when I push it I can get it running. Is there somthing still wrong with the mag or? Also this is a 1939, do I need lead addative for the fuel?
Thanks for any help
Frank

If it is a moisture problem, there is a product called wire dry in a aresol can that works better than any comercial could claim. I plowed snow with a ford pickup, even after running for a hour I would hit a drift with the right wind conditions and drowned the engine to a complete stall. I could just knock the snow off the distributor, and spray it and it would start right off, not so much as a backfire. Very great stuff @ 5 AM in a snow storm. Dave NE IA

Is there a company name, web site or toll free number on that aerosol can of "wire dry"? Hal

Just a few moments ago got word of a friend that lost a building with a tornado this AM. Id did not even get windy at the next door neighbors, so time on the computer may get scarce, I guess it scattered it all over the fields, and is muddy. I think the last I bought was from our hardware store in town that is out of business. I am almost certian Tru - Value has it. I just looked at 3 cans that have been in vehickles and tool boxes, and can not read anything. I will promise to check into it this week if I can get away. Dave NE IA

Frank, I'll let the others comment on the mag, but as to a lead additive: No, you do not need it. Just use straight store-bought fuel.

Make sure the points and entire mag is dry. Use a heat gun or hair dryer. Make sure the points are set, as stated earlier and that they are not oxidized. Use a point file or a fine emery board to burnish them. Time the mag to #1 TDC by rotating the mag body outward until the advance JUST SNAPS. More detail can be found in the Tune-up Guide link on the left side of the board.

Sorry, but the details for timing the magneto is NOT under "Tune-up guide". It is under "Articles". Try this link

Can you tell if the impulse coupling is snapping when you hand crank it. This is what causes a hot spark when hand cranking. You should hear a snapping sound when hand cranking. Make sure those points are set to .013" too. Hal

I can definatly hear the snap noise, when timing this engine should the rotor point to no 1 tower exactly , just before the mag trips or point to no1 right after it trips or?

Like i tol you before the rotor has to be pointed at the tower when it impulses. It must not be there that is why it will start when pulling as then the engine is turning faster than when using the starter cause when using the starter it is impulsing and the rotor must not be lined up with the tower. When the engine starts the timing with a mag goes to 33 or so degrees but to start it must fire on impulse whit the starter.
