I have replaced my generator with an alternator on my SMTA. This necessarily required changing to negative ground and changing my coil. Surprise---no lights work! I think the lights have sealed beams in them. Any advice on how to remedy this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Also, positive or negative ground doesn't matter to lights.

You obviously had to do some re-wiring to add the alternator. It's possible that you didn't reconnect the light switch power when you removed the regulator. You could have also broken the wire while rewiring.

First, replace the sealed beams with 12V lights. Otherwise, they'll just blow out if they haven't already.

Take the panel off the oval electrical box on the steering post. A wire should run from the light switch to the fuse holder, then from the fuse holder to a constant power source, like the battery side of the ignition switch or a dedicated wire running straight to the switch on the starter.

Well the moment you turned on your 6 volt lights with 12 volt battery you blew them out. If there sealed beams I think you need 411s or 410 head light bulbs.

If you put 12 volts to 6 volt lights there shot.Take a tester or simple test light and check for power at the lights.
