There are several smaller than normal alternators out there but connecting them with more than one wire to the battery is the problem. Some of them have internal regulators (if they don't they are obsolete) but still have two other wires that must go somewhere. These are needed for some installations to keep from cutting a slice out of the hood. Like on a CUB! I have two off late GM cars to fool with. Gave up on generators long ago. ===== ===== =====
By the way, my carb mod drilling out the CUB venturi to .625 works.

R3, I converted my H to 12 volts using a Hitachi 14231 alternator which is smaller then a Delco/GM type. Bob Melville's wiring diagrams show the wiring for a Delco 10SI alternator. The identification of the terminals on my Hitachi differ from those on a Delco. The terminal which is a theaded stud and by itself on the Hitachi is the "Bat" connection. It connects to a 12 volt feed wire coming from the battery through the starter switch and ammeter. The wire from the "S" terminal on my Hitachi connects directly to the Bat terminal also with a short jumper wire. "S" (is for sense) and the same as the No. 2 terminal in Bob's diagram. The "L" terminal on the Hitachi will need to run through a warning light or a resistor (to excite the alternator to charge) to the coil side of the ignition switch and and then to the "+" terminal on the coil. This is the same as the No. 1 terminal in Bob's diagram. Both connections to these spade termainals on the alternator will need to be made with insulated push on connectors. You will need to install a ballast resistor in this wire somewhere between the switch and the coil. You will also need to run a wire from the "-" terminal on the coil to the distributor connection. Hope this helps. Hal

I have a tiny hitachi alt on my H.It had several wires/wire connections. I put it in the vise and ran it with a motor, the big(battery) wire was idiot proof the other two or three I touched around gently till I got it right. It was free. I ended up only having to have one little wire connected to the ign for excitation(sp). If you get an internally regulated mini alternator me or someone else here will help to figure out the wiring. But we need to know exactly what you have. maybe even a picture.

The Delco 10SI has the internal regulator not sure about the size. They claim it can be wired
with a single wire. Here's a web site that shows you how. Hal
