my friend has a 39 m that has a push pull cable that goes into the transmission and hookes to an arm that moves a mechanism that had pins in it to engage something. the mechanism is in place of where the spacer would be in the lower part of the tranny. we believe it is not a m&w nine speed. we would like to know what it is. I have some pics but donot know how to up load them. any info would be appreciated

Heisler and Behlen also made 9 speeds,If I remember correct the M and W and the Heisler were solid linkage shift, the Behlen used cable.

Yes it makes the PTO 2 speed also but thats just a side effect of making the transmission dual range. The 2 pins have a splined piece on front end and under front 2 gears on that shaft. It has splines on inside and outside. One side to turn trans shaft and other to lock in whichever range gear its shifted into.I think it is a M&W 9 speed from what you described.

Hi , I have the nine speed and what he's describing is what I have , a push-pull cable going into the side of the trany housing . If the 9-speed changes the pto speed to a two speed , what's the rpm of the high side on the pto ? Mine work's great but I didn't know it increased the pto speed also . Take care ...Randy

On the M&W with cable ,the cable should go in at the center housing between engine and trans and then on into trans through a special hollow bolt that bolts center housing to trans. Don't know the
RPM of pto on high side but its to fast for safe operation of some things at wide open throttle.
Also hydraulic belley pump is speeded up in high range.
