I need to rebuild or replace or adjust the brakes on my 1963 IH 340 utility. There isn't much info or detail in the shop manual. I would appreciate any detail procedures for replacing the disc and things to watch out for.
Thanks.

Hi Fred,

As Hugh said there's not much too them. I think there's 4 disc's per brake. The adjusting rod and ball nut, I found comes off easy with adding a lite coat of anti-sieze to the threads before removing the nut, clean, replace disc's and reinstall.

Since there easy to take off and clean, you might want to do that before you buy new disc's.

Fred, I always learn as much or more from a parts manual than I do from a service manual. The pictorials and diagrams always show you exactly what order things go together and also give you the correct name for a part that you need.

Fred: It's been awhile, how are you anyhow. Often times those disc brakes need little more than a good cleaning. The ramps and balls get dirty, thus hampering brake activation. The discs get glazed thus it best to have two sets. You will probably find 1 or 2 springs that hold activators together have broken. Other than that just be careful removing the bolt in from pedal, those can twist quite easily.

Make sure those rubber boots around activation bolt are in good shape. One other item one ocasionally finds is a leaky seal around brake pinion shaft. In that case transmission oil will be quite visable. It's really quite straight forward proceedure.
