I RUN STRAIGHT PIPES ON MY "M" AND "SM" BOTH. NO PROBLEM. I BUY MY STAINLESS FROM A LOCAL DEALER THAT MAKES STEP RAILS FOR TRUCKS. A FIVE FOOT STICK IS ABOUT $50.00. IT IS UNPOLISHED BUT YOU CAN BUFF IT OUT TO A MIRROR FINISH WITH A BUFFING PAD.HE ALSO HAS THE ONES THAT ARE CURVED, BUT THEY ARE A LITTLE HIGHER.IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO FIND ONE, LET ME KNOW, VIA E-MAIL.

Lloyd: If you put that pipe above your head level, (which by the way is necessary to keep exhaust out of your face) the only time you even notice extra noise is when you start to move or accelerate with any of the gas letter series Farmalls. Even with a straight pipe they are quiet alongside the 60 to 100 hp diesels with muflers that followed.

I have a M with a straight pipe and it runs just fine. When I had a muffler on it , I always got exhaust back in my face. I bought one of those stainless pipes with the curved top and have it pointing out to the left side. I got the pipe at the IH dealer for about $100. He had them for the H and M. It sure looks nice and sounds good too. But, the best thing is no exhaust in my face. I use ear plugs when I am mowing, but it really is not that loud.

Martin: Make that straight pipe as long as the mufler, you will not hurt anything. Just take a look through a new mufler for an H. How much different is it from a straight pipe?

I have a Farmall 130, been going with a 30" straight pipe for several years now. Initially I did it because it would burn the factory mufler out in about 1 year. That tractor has alway done that. I have two other tractors with same engine that don't burn out the muflers.

I run most of my tractors that way and have never hurt any thing. The older tractors ge a little more power that way but you will not notice the extra power. Now running it with out a pipe will burn the exhause valves

It really won't hurt anything. Some tractors need some backpressure to make maximun power. It may hurt the power a little.

Tried a staight pipe on an M and it never seemed to run right at idle or higher RPM. It ran even worse under load. Setting carb different never helped. See lots running staight pipes at the antique pulls and don't seem to hurt them at all. Think we might just have stubborn old girl.
