I used a full-sized GM alternator with built-in voltage regulator, cost about $35 to $40, with the idler pulley as the belt adjustment. I bought the idler pulley, one used on a lawnmower deck, from the local hardware store. It all worked great. I used the archived photos on this site.

I used a nippondenso from an early 80s Toyota Tercel on our Super H. It fit under the hood alright but it is a close fit. I fabricated my own bracket and belt adjuster and followed Bob M's diagrams and everything worked out great.

Do you want 6 volt or 12 volt alternator. The 6 volt comes in either positive or negative ground.

I got a 12 volt alternator on there now but its not charging and it does not let me shut the hood all the way. So I guess If I have to get a new one want to get one that will fit. Thanks Andrew

I have a Japanese alternator still in the NAPA box if you decide to go that route, but the Delco will fit. jwc1934@aol.com

I think they use the Delco 10SI 12 volt alternator
on these tractor conversions. You can go to this web site to see a picture of the 10SI and
installation instructions. You can click on page 5 of this forum and find Mark Herbert's posting on a Super A alternator. Click on Bob M's response. He recommends the 10SI too.

There's a Hitachi alternator model 14231 that's used by some of these tractor owners. It's available at NAPA p/n 2138130 for $50.00 exchange. It may be smaller too. Go look at them in your local NAPA auto parts store. Then make your choice. Hal
