I'm in the middle of putting the engine back together after unseizing it.I would like to get it running before I restore the rest of it.With the carb, distributer, radiater, etc. still off, it would be a lot easier to paint the engine and where the rad. sits.I want to pull the front axle out so don't want to paint underneath right now.Anybody done it this way?I guess I could wrap the engine in plastic when I paint the rest to prevent overspray, but what problems will I have matching up or blending together on the framerails?I am using 2150 paint. Not sure if I will put epoxy on the cast parts, but will have epoxy and maybe hardener on the sheetmetal.

I didn't think there would be any problems. Just thought I'd see if most other guys were doing it this way. Thanks.

I can't see how it can be done any other way and have a good paint job. You do need to keep overspray off the finished areas which only takes time mostly. It takes more effort but it works for me. You should get a HVLP touchup gun though. Overspray and amout applied are better controlled with one.
Good luck!

I'm doing one right now, a little bit at a time
I use rattle cans of IH Red paint, and paint places
I know I cant hit after it is assembled. After it is
All together minus the hood and grill , the whole tractor gets sprayed. I don't intend to take it to any shows .

well... I use CrossFire automotive paint from NAPA and apply 2 parts hardener as this is an industrial application. I don't see why there would be any problems matching paint on the rails with the previously painted block. Why would there be? Same paint. If you used different primer for the block as the rails and sheet metal, THEN there could be a difference. But after painting two farmalls, and a classic pickup, painting in stages is not a problem.
