How hard will it be to find a set of steel lugs (for both wheels) for an F-12 and about how much should I expect to pay? With Christmas coming up, I probably can't afford them right now anyway, but just curious about availability and price. Anyone know?

Thanks,

Tony

Three common sizes for F-12 were; 4" high x 2 1/4" wide, 4" high x 3" wide and, 5" high x 3" wide. Other sizes were available for other IHC tractors and other brands so be sure and measure to get size you want.

Tony,I just took all the lugs off my f14,and gave them away, however they were wore out.Steel wheels make it harder to move around and play with.I relined the exact wheels you have with rubber,by cutting the middle out of a 12.4x38 used tractor tire and pressing it over the wheel, then bolting it on with short carrage bolts. The tractor actually looks good

Jimmy,

I thought about doing that, but I decided that I would just keep the "cut offs" with the pneumatic tires and put those on when operating on blacktop, and have the complete steel for operating on dirt. I really like the look of the full steel with the lugs. I am going to bolt on rubber to my steel plow (little genius #8, 2-14) wheels though!

I wouldn't expect you to have difficulty in finding steel lugs for it. They were common to several other models as well. They came in a couple of differing lengths so you'll have to decide what you prefer. Make sure you also specify the width. I needed only one and I DID specify the width. Sure enough when it arrived it was wider than the others. I had easy access to a porta band saw at work and did a slick job of cutting it to proper width and cleaning it up. It bolted up the same and you'd never know which one it was. But I wouldn't want to to it for a whole set even with a porta band.

The cost may be more than you are hoping for for two reasons. They are going to weigh quite a bit to ship presumably in something like several five gallon buckets and they are likely going to be a dickens for someone else to remove from their existing wheels assuming rusty bolts. I was very careful and slow at taking mine off for rolling it around during restoration. Even after soaking them in Break Free and heating them with a torch there were some that still snapped off the 5/8's bolts that held them on. I purchased some new square head bolts for them but of course 5/8's square head bolts were a hard to obtain item and I had to buy a box of 25. Make sure you make it clear to whoever you are purchasing them from that they send along the bolts along with the lugs and save yourself some grief even if you can only use a portion of them.

I would try getting ahold of Nebraska Cowman or the Steel wheel Ranch and asking them first.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to do some research to see what width I need for the wheels I have. Depending on where I find a set, it might be cheaper to pick them up in person...

If I remember I'll check what I have in the morning and repost tomorrow evening. The lugs are not the full width of the wheel. They alternate from going from one edge to the other.
