Hydraulices work very poorly and needs oil often, but cylinders aren't leaking. There is leakage between engine and transmission. Any idea where I should look to repair? It is extremely slow in cold weather. I have replaced the screen assy at bottom of reservoir (old one was collasped) I seldom use this tractor, but would like to more often. Any suggestions?

There's probably a groove worn on the shaft of the drive gear in your hydraulic pump. The seal
gets brittle from age. It could have an oring.

Case/IH has kits to repair these pumps. If you don't feel comfortable doing the rebuild. Case/IH
can probably rebuild it. You never want to run a
hydraulic pump without oil. It will ruin the pump since the hydraulic oil lubricates the internal parts of pump as well. Just about the same as an engine without oil. Speedi-sleeves
are available to cover the groove worn into the shaft. One more thing when doing it yourself you need to have the work bench clean as a pin &
all pump parts cleaned with a good cleaner. Hal

Mylsa: The 450 can not leak oil from transmission to engine or vice versa. You can get leakage as Hal suggests from hydraulic system into the crankcase, via the shaft that drives the pump.

From your description I suspect not only is pump leaking into crankcase, but it is in poor shape as well. Probably the best cure would be a rebuilt or new pump. If you have no external leaks this should cure the problem. Shop around on that pump, there are several sources. I would talk to CaseIH first.

Is the engine oil level higher than normal? Could be leakage from the hydraulic pump into the crankcase. Hal
