one last question for Peabody?

Peabody, I looked at the housing and the removable gear and don't see any seal, other than what looks like brass inserts in both gear shaft holes on the housing body. Those look to be set in and very tight making removal difficult. I looked at the other attached half of the unit with the two gears coming out and took out the removable gear and in that hole is also a set in (I think) brass seal? The gear shafts are not worn or grooved in any way and the holes that the shafts sit in look good also, no apparent wear.

From the parts breakdown in my I & T shop manual
it looks as if that seal is in the pump cover where the shaft on the drive gear protrudes through the cover. They call it a drive shaft seal. It could be an oring. Hard to tell from
picture. Hal

Hey El Toro, that IS the only seal I can find on this unit. Peabody says otherwise, but I cannot find what he is talking about.

My I & T manual does state that the early production pumps used a different seal with the o-ring being in the later production pumps. Make sure that shaft isn't worn. Very important. Hal

According to my parts breakdown there are a total of 16 pieces in that pump. There's a pump body seal that looks to be an oring & the drive shaft seal. I think this would be the one to leak
into the governor gears. My book has the pump being driven by the cam shaft. This also drives the governor, so we all may be right. There are two cover seal rings that are installed in the pump cover. There's no mention of any other seals. Is there a seal where this drive shaft protrudes through and engages the governor or cam. That's probably where the shaft gets a groove worn into the surface from the old seal. I hope instructions come with kit. Have a nice Thanksgiving. Hal
