Can anybody answer a quick question for me. Will an injection pump have pressure if it is running on the gas side with the throttle lever opened up. I just had the scavenging pump rebuilt and I live at an apartment complex so I cant leave it run to bleed all the injectors and test it right now. At least not without an eviction notice. LOL I just want to see if I fixed most of my problems. I will be able to do it properly midway through the winter months when I bring it back to the farm. Thanks
Brad

Brad,

Your injector pump, probably an "A" model, has a low pressure gear pump that operates any time the engine is turning regardless of throttle position. You probably have a pressure gage on top of the pump that shows the pressure of this gear pump. Running on gas with throttle open or closed, this gage should show pressure.

The injector pump also has a high pressure plunger pump that supplies fuel to the injectors when the throttle is open. If you need to bleed the injectors you need to have the throttle at least partially opened.

Have fun,

Larry

The answer is yes. If you advance the diesel speed control lever while in gas mode, diesel will be pumped to the injectors. If diesel is getting to the engine when doing this, you will get a lot of smoke.

I think you will find that the pump will start pumping with the throttle opened. This is part of the bleeding process as laid out in the owners manual.

I believe the answer is no. Unless you mess with the interlocks, the diesel "throttle" will be in the off position. There will be tremendous smoke if you did do this anyway.
