When you apply the choke on a Zenith carb, do you push the choke rod to close the choke plate/air shutter or pull it?

The reason I ask, is I am rebuilding a carb, and the air shutter shaft & lever seems to be installed incorrectly from the previous owner/rebuilder. Thank you.

I recently installed a new Zenith carburetor on my 46 A, the rod is pulled to choke it.

Thanks folks. Phase II of the question; is the lever that connects to the choke rod in an upward, downward or forward position when the choke is closed?

You will see in the IH parts book that this is not covered.

The choke lever on the Zenith carb on my '48 C points down and to the front when the choke is open, and down and to the rear when the choke is closed. Full open to full close looks to be about 90 degrees of rotation.

Ah Ha! That makes sense and proves that this carb was incorrectly assembled or never hooked up to a choke rod. Thanks.

I am not sure my carb is a Zenith but the rod pulls to close the choke butterfly. Same on the C
