My recommendation is for operating the tractor in temps below 0 degrees F 5W-20, for operating in temps between 0 and 50 degrees, either F 5W-30 or straight 10W. If you are operating the tractor in temps consistently above freezing 10W-30 or if you get extremely hot 15W-40 or straight 30W.

If you have a low oil pressure or oil consumption issues, heavier oil will mask the symptom, but won't cure the problem.

A good quality 10w30 will be just fine.

Well, not much info to go on but I'll try to answer. Mine had detergent oil in it when I got it. I now use IH low ash 30W in summer and mix it 50/50 with IH 10W in winter. I seem to get better oil pressure with the IH oil. Does yours have detergent oil in it now? How cold does it get in winter where you live? I change the filter every time I change oil but not really sure this is necessary. Don't forget to dig the old O ring out of the groove before putting in the new one that comes with yur new filter. Sometimes they are really stuck in there. Dave.
