I replaced all the electrical wiring on the 330U 12 volt and it starts and runs as I intended it to. But, the ammeter finger shakes about the 0 mark. I tried switching the wires on the posts and got the same results. The finger doesnt move at all when I start it up, once it is running then it will jiggle about 0. I know the ammeter on my 12 volt Ford will show +25 at half idle on the ammeter and will always half a charged battery. I have MOPAR alt on the 330U and am wondering if it is bad, if I replace it I would like to put a alt with a single post (I think 10SI) and not have an external regulator. How do I know what alt to get for the tractor? What will fit? I also noticed a hissing noise while the tractor is running. Im postive that it is hydraulics internally. Is that normal?

The first question is:::
Does the amp gauge show discharge when the engine is off and the lights are turned on?
If yes then things may be OK.
Battery charg voltage should be 14.2-14.4 volts. If it above 14.6 the regulator needs to be changed.
If the voltage is no where near 14, and closer to 12.5-13, and the battery is pretty well charged, the alternator is suspect.

Unless there is a snake in the space under the seat, Hissing is normalish!

No, the amp doesn't show discharge then or when I first turn the key. It does nothing. By the way the amp is new.

If the amp gauge does nothing (in general), It is either bad (possible), or the gauge is not hooked up correctly. The gauge should be hooked between every thing, and the big wire running to the battery+ side.

I mean the #10 wire, not starter current.
