Mornin' Dave,

Yesterday, I took a ride into town and looked at an old 656 hydro the local dealer has on his lot.

Those lines had been replaced with rubber hose, but they are sure "crossed" also.

You're right. I think I have other 'problems'. :>(

I really appreciate you help,

Allan

Dave from MN, I may be out of line with this but that brass quick opening valve in the picture should not be in hydraulic service. Brass valves and fittings do not handle pressure or temp. well at all. I will take a chance on sticking my nose in to speak up for safety. If I am out of line I will gladly take my lumps rather than get somebody hurt.

Hey Thanks, ya know I really never noticed that. I really dont ever use it. It was on the hyd when i bought the tractor and just closed it today for the picture. Not sure but I think them parker fittings- valves are only rated for 300# working. Thankd and its always good to medle when it can increase a persons safety. I'll take them out of the system while I'm checking how the speed ratio can be changed.

COOL, Glad to help. Want everybody to stay safe. These old tractors are dangerous enough without something like a brass valve being thrown in the mix. Go Red Power.

I'll play with mine on monday in reply to dave from MN, 11-20-2005 10:51:54
Allan, I will play aroound with the speed ratio lerer on mine in the am and see what could all make the change that yopu have. I should be able to measure the stroke of different things compared to the distance the lever is moved. Something tells me youve had a linkage or proportioning valve altered or something.

Hmmmm,

Looks exactly the same. :>(

No, the control "neutrals" just right, so I didn't wanna mess with it.

Thanks for your help,

Allan

Is it possible that someone Flipped the ring gear to allow fast reverse with a bale spike or some other irrational reason?
I could be off base here, I have never been inside a Hydro (full size)

I think Jan could be onto something here. Have you considered switching the lines to see what happens? I'm not familiar enough with the hydros to know if this will damage anything, but I'd be inclined to give it a try.
