I have a 1952 Cub I am restoring. I have completely rebuilt the engine. My problem is that it runs rich. I have put a kit in the carburetor. I have checked all passages and found them clear. When the tractor runs it puffs black smoke and the plugs become black and fowled in less than two hours. Any suggestions?

Your statement that the fuel level is set below specs is interesting. If the spec you're using is the on-engine liquid level check, then setting the fuel level less than the 9/16 inch spec will cause the carb to run rich. If the spec you're using is the float level setting, then setting the float level to less that the 1 13/32 inch spec will cause the carb to run rich. Just an obsevation. Good luck.

You need to check your float level, could be a little high, also shake that float for any gas inside the float. Could cause it to drop allowing too much fuel causing a flooding condition. Hal

New float has been installed. The fuel level is set below specs. Thanks

Did you replace the idle tube? I didn't think so. Often they get broken off and people remove the stub and thread the remainder and put it back in. Bad idea! The tube has a very small orfice in the top that has to be there. Try again and spend the $17.75 for a new idle tube.
