I was plowing snow the other night with the 400D and the hydraulic lever (touch control lever) stopped working. I have an aftermarket 3 point on the tractor and use the touch control to raise lower the plow blade. How involved is it to repair/replace this. Hydraulics are all good other than this part. Thanks for any advice.

Remove fastners in sheet metal and move out of way.Don't know if you have 1-2 or 3 valves but if the handle you are using is one all the way to right I would guess the pin on inside end of shaft
is broke or fell out. Also check the linkage strape to valve,it may be loose. The levers on the
shafts going into valves have splines that could be striped. The handle on right operates valve on left.If the valve needs removed, remove lines, operating handles,2 nuts on studs and 2 bolts on cover at right end of valves and they slide off.O rings between everything.

Any idea where I can get a new valve? I'm pretty sure this one is shot, 55 years old. I was using it very hard, works great one way but not the other way. Seals shot? or what?

Don't know if you can still get new never checked
. There is lots of used ones around, other IH tractors used same valve unless its the valve on left and you have IH Belhen power sreering then its not as common.Sometimes on the tractors with 3
valves 1 or 2 of them saw little use.Another thing to check just in case is that some way the cap on top of valve didnt turn to single acting
position.

I don't know how hard they are to replace but I see there is one on Ebay. Do search under Farmall Diesel. Starting bid is $70.

The lever may have stripped on the shaft. If so the repair is to get a good lever, or flatten the steel insert in the original reducing its size, or using a JB weld material.
