A few years back I heard of a method to keep doors from freezing shut in the cold winter months. For the life of me I can not remember what it was exactly. After our first snow of the season last night, I worked for over a half hour to get into my car this morning. Any helpful hints to prevent this would be very nice. Thanks Brad

Brad, I had that same problem for years in Michigan. I finally solved it by growing old and going to Arizona in the winter.LOL. W4

Is that the door or the lock? If it is the lock, heat the key with a lighter and stick the key in the lock. You can also try heating the lock cylinder with the lighter but watch out for the paint.

If I know it is going to be bad weather, the night before I spray some silicon lube on a rag and wipe it on the door seals. Works inside the lock also.

A five gallon bucket of hot water works well also!

A few years ago we got some freezing rain- I had 1/4" of ice all over my truck.. it took a bucket or two to get the ice of the windsheild too.

Hey Red:
THe hot water trick might work the first time, but the next time you try to open it it will be so full of ice nothing will work. I'd stay away from the water. Dry lubes are best. Just keep everything dry, dry dry.

Be careful with that hot water on cold glass. Sometimes they don't mix well. Harley

Coat the rubber seals with vasaline works almost every time and is cheap also

Old's idea of vasoline is ok if the "rubber" is not rubber, If it is the petroleum will tend to swell it. Another issue is that our other significant persons use the vehicles upon occasion. As most believe from experience, it is not a good idea to use decoritive clothing to check the thickness of any lubricant especially by accident.

Silicon spray is much safer (IMHO)

Guess I should have expalained how its put on also. You se a rag to put it on them wipe it off as best as you can. That way you leave a very very thin coat and it last most of the winter and it also doesn't make a mess.
