I am looking at a 300 utility with PTO and loader, it is in real good shape but lacks 3 pt hitch. Can it be added and what kind of cost are we talking about? Thanks for any help, Terry in Wisconsin

I friend of mine has a 300U with fast hitch which has been converted to 3 point. So yes there out there sort of but may be hard to find.

There are aftermarket 3pt hithces for FARMALL 300s, but not for 300 Utilities.

I do believe that 3pt was an option on the 350 utility, but it was raaaaa aaaare. You'll never find a factory setup, and even if you do, you'll never be able to afford it.

If you can't live without 3pt, I suggest looking at another tractor.

Here's a picture of one I found on a tractor selling website some time ago. I think it is a 350 Hi-Utility that had red painted over the grill and the white sticker. I don't think the 300 Utility could have had fast hitch from the factory.

We're talking about 3pt, not fast hitch, and I am fairly certain that fast hitch was an option on the 300 Utility.

Yep, but if you look between the liftarms, on the rock shaft, there is a third mounting location. Our 460 utility had a similar set up. It alowed the 2pt to be used like a three pt. All you needed to do was remove the drawbar, insert the arm extensions into the tubes, and then attach a third mounting plate on top of the rockshaft, and you had a three point. It took 5 minutes to convert, and we removed it from our 460 when we sold it and use the same exact kit on our 806. It works like a charm. So he could just install a 2pt and then get a kit to make it a 3pt, although it would be a LOT cheaper to just find a tractor with one or the other.

Hey Guys,

Yep, they sure had the fast hitch option, but I don't think IH even offered the three-point until the 06s came out did they?

Wasn't there some kind of a patient war with Ford going on back then over the 3-point style hitch?

Allan

Not a patent "war" per se, just an unwillingness to pay the licensing fee to Harry Ferguson for use of the design. It was almost certainly on a per-tractor basis, and with 100,000's of tractors being produced, it would've cost IH a LOT of money to license the 3pt. It was probably cheaper to develop the fast hitch, and a matter of pride for sure.

Yep, I think you are right. Isn't that why during that period, everyone had their own version of hitch. Then afterward, everyone adopted the industry standard 3pt.

IH sold a 3 point hitch for international 460
tractors.They called it a industrial hitch.Chadd
the picture you posted shows the 300 2 point hitch
it used a lift cylinder horizonal to left of seat.
The top link hook up was on the 300 hitch because
the 300 2 point plow and maybe some other stuff
used a top link.On 350 utes they went to a verticle lift cylinder 2 point hitch.
