Well picked up a 100 CCA 6 volt today for the 544D. I can get it in one of the spots where the smaller ones were , but cant get anything bigger than a 670CCA in the batt spot in the front console under the steering. Is it OK to use a 670 and 10000CCA batt together in this series setup?? I did pick up the stuff to make a good )) cable from the closer batt to the starter. $44.00 for 18" and two ends, holy crap, better make the wife do some ot this weekend!! Hopefully this helps the cranking speed

I wish I knew what battery the mechanic put in Dad's 756 when we put the diesel in 'er. It's a single 12V, and spins that old 360 diesel over like nothing in the middle of winter. That battery would probably tear the engine right out of a 544, and you wouldn't have to worry about dealing with two mismatched batteries.

Basically, the 1000 CCA battery is wasted money because you're limited to what the smaller battery can do.

Dave, I agree with Jim, so thats worth something aint it?? Actually, regardless if in series or paralell I hate to mix different rated and/or design batteries (I even prefer they be bought and installed as a matched set together) but certainly agree its more risky when in series.

In paralell they are like 2 big electron banks sittin there ready to deliver amps to the load according to their rating/ability, but if badly mis matched, when the voltage drops excessivley lower on one (due to different ratings) it could become a load on the other it looks to me.

In series I think something similar could happen, but the total starter load must pass through BOTH series batteries as Jim noted, and I dont like the sound of that cuz I forsee the potential of plate damage on the lighter one maybe??

Dont get me wrong, Im NOT sayin it wont work, but the thought of it would give me a lil haertburn. Still, its your tractor and your money so go with the flow I reckon.

Yes you can but if I remember right you will only have what ever the lowest/smaller battry has as far as CCA

The worst case is no in reply to dave from MN, 11-16-2005 14:31:45
In a parallel system yes, they add together and are loaded individually.
In a series system under low load they will work. In a starting system it is (in my experience a sure way to overload and ruin the smaller battery). The total amps must flow through the entire circuit.
John T will correct me if I'm wrong.
