I see two types of throttles on E-bay for an H. One is a saw tooth and the other is a square tooth. Which is the correct one or were both used?
Bill

The 400 and 300 series were the first Farmalls to have a square tooth throttle from the factory, not shaped like the earlier but square tooth. Ever attend an auction of an old IH dealership, You will find several new saw tooths take offs that were replaced prior to delivery. The first square tooths were made by Monroe, the IH seat vendor.Been over 50 years but I think I'm right

The little "TIN CAP" as they called them were eventually made at FARMALL. I was a Production Scheduler in the dept. that milled the slots on the caps in the late 70's. No one else in the department had a CLUE to what the part really was but they were amazed how many they made in a year.

You can consider both correct, unless you run into a really picky correct policeman. I am not sure the square tooth one was ever issued on a tractor from the factory, but the IH replacement ones were square tooth in the 50's.

BHB,
If I remember right, the sawtooth was what came originally on the H"s and M"s. I remember when one of our H"s sawtooth throttle controls wore out, the replacement from the IH dealer was the square tooth one. HTH, Larry

My 54 SMTA had the square tooth, both 42 H's came with the saw tooth. I switched to the M&W friction throttle...

ohhh, and there is the friction throttle plate from M&W too. I am guessing the sawtooth. Though I had 1952 M with square cut, 1952 H with sawtooth.
