Ok all u farmall historians out there, I finally got the grease cleaned off the engine of this farmall m I bought a month ago. Please tell me all u can about the numbers listed. Serial tag says FBK 215676 X1, on the block engraved are 6 722 DJ 3 12-29-8
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Where was this tractor likely built? By the way, I live in Canada. If that makes any difference.

The FBK is the model code for a Farmall M, and the s/n 215676 indicates a early 1950 tractor assembly date. The X1 suffix to the s/n means the tractor was built by the factory for use with gasoline in lieu of other fuel types. If the casting code information you provided is really a "S" and not the "8" you posted the block was cast on Dec. 29, 1949 which would be consistant with your tractor. I think there was a large Farmall plant in Rock Island, Illinois where it might have been built and other plants were in Chicago and Louisville, Ky but I don't know which models were built where and during what years. Hope this helps. Hal

Can't help you with these. You should have a 6 digit engine s/n with the 1949 casting code you earlier provided. Don't have a clue what the ME stands for but the X1 is a gasoline engine. A "E" code was used to designate a tractor with 8,000 ft. altitude components. A "M" code was used to designate a low speed attachment but don't why that would be on the engine block. Maybe someone else with the required knowledge will have an answer. Hal

There weren't much difference between the standard engine and the 5K and 8K altitude engines. I believe the differences were only in the pistons and maybe the cylinder head. With a less dense atmosphere as the altitude increases I believe they increased the compression ratio to maintain the horsepower at the higher altitudes. I'm not an expert on this item by any means but I believe if you have an 8K altitude engine and are at sea level you probably have additional horsepower over the standand M. Hope this helps. Hal

DWV is correct--no Canadian built M's, was built at the Farmall Plant, I forget which city.

6722DJ is the casting # on your M block.don't know what the 3 is. 12-29-8 is probably 12-29-S and would be date block was cast. The engine serial # is stamped in block on raised pad just above the valve tappet cover near front of engine. Let us know what you find.

I found the following numbers on the cylinder head 8060-D8 for whatever they mean. I just can't get over the condition this tractor is in, I put a boxed in wrench on the manifold nuts and everyone started easily.
